Bantwal, Jul 18: The intermittent rain continued to create havoc in Dakshina Kannada District and the Netravathi river passing through city crossed the danger mark for the first time this year. About 100 houses along the district have been flooded as the rain continued to pour unabated. About 50 houses including shops have already been inundated following heavy rains on Saturday, July 18.

Water level in Netravathi River crossed to 9.6 meter mark which is considered as dangerous. The level went on increasing from Friday, july 17 from 7.2 meters and yesterday it  increased to 9.6 meters which is  considered as the danger limit.

Downward places in Bantwal taluk along the river coast are almost flooded paralyzing normal life in this area.  More than 15 houses in Aladka are surrounded in flood water.  Shops and commercial complexes in Jakribettu, Baddakatte area is also flooded.  Bus stops and fish market are completely filled with flood waters.

Kelagina pete in Bantwal, Kanchikara Pete, Bastipadpu, Akkarangadi, Panemangalore, Tumbe, Meramajalu, Nanadavara and surrounding areas have been transformed into islands  and road traffic is completely thrown out of gear due to rainwater storage.

Shifting residents from the affected areas of floods is on in full swing.  The public have come forward to give a helping hand to the affected people to shift them to safer places The revenue department also has come forward to help shift people to safer places.  The department has shifted about 22 families to safer places from the flood affected areas of Bantwal Taluk.

As the Bastipadpu Bridge is covered from river water, buses and other vehicles traveling to Mudabidre were diverted through a different route. The flood fury this time has the residents recall the floods of 1974 that had caused much havoc in terms of life and property.

When I commented negetively to the mock up drill of NDRF, Mr. Anthony Crasta felt that comments were negetive. Mr. Crasta...Can you see any NDRF peolpe around..!!!???? I am not trying to tell you the inefficiency of NDRF guy''s...!!!!! They are capable of handling the flood situation..!!!! But...But a mere 100 guy''s....how much they can cover..!!???? Can they cover 5 Kilometres..!!!????..... The canoe seen in the photgraph is local one, who is not aware of drill of NDRF, but capable of handling this situation....He doesnt have life jacket or any machines...he has only guts and helping nature....hats off to you sir...!!!!
