Bantwal, Jul 15: More than 15 houses were flooded at Aladka, near Panemangalur, on Wednesday July 15 due to widespread rains that have been lashing the taluk over the past few days.  The residents of these houses have sought shelter in the neighbouring villages.

Jakribettu, Aladka, Panemanglur, Baddakatte, Goodinabali, Akkarangady, and other low lying areas across the taluk are inundated with water levels steadily rising in the Netravati River on Wednesday.

The low lying culverts on the access road to neighbouring villages were cut off owing to floods from the vicinity of Panemanglur new bridge.  The flood waters also covered the paddy fields, and plantations as well as the playground of Sharada School.

Many youth were found swimming in the river to gather timber that has come floating in the water.  A house was damaged after a tree uprooted at Neralekatte, near here. A petty shop was also damaged at Loretto Padav.
