Dubai: Enthusiastic Response to SMKC Indoor Sports

Dubai, Jun 27: St Mary's Konkani Community’s (SMKC) indoor sports programme was held at Insports Dubai on Friday June 26. The programme was a thumping success with various teams vying with each other to bag the honours.
After the welcome address by Vincent Pereira, sports coordinator, the programme was inaugurated by Fr Frederick D'Souza. The first ball was bowled by Vincent Periera and fielded by main coordinator Boniface Carlo. Fr Frederick thanked all those who supported the endeavours of SMKC and those present for coming to the programme in large numbers. The main purpose of holding such programmes is to bring families together, he said.
Presidential speech was delivered by Boniface Carlo. He lauded the support of the sponsors and well-wishers and appreciated the fact that people belonging to different communities had come together at the programme. Joseph Mathias, managing director of Merit Freight and Logistics, Dubai participated as chief guest.
In all, 33 entries were received for the cricket tournament.
The sports programme were coordinated by sports coordinator Vincent Pereira, supported by sports committee members Boniface Carlo, Jerina Lewis, Jennifer Mascarenhas, Norbert Sequeira, Arun D'Souza, Rohan D'Costa and Jovin D'Souza.
In the afternoon, lunch was served to over 300 people who were present. The valedictory ceremony was held at about 3.30 pm. Noel Mascarenhas praised the unity of the Mangalorean community settled in Dubai and appreciated the efforts of the sports committee.
Prizes were distributed to Naeem Aslam NAS of Bantwal Tigers, who was adjudged the ‘best bowler’. The award meant for the ‘best batsman’ went to Leon Carlo Lee also of Bantwal Tigers. Vikaranth Shetty Vicky of Bantwal Tigers got the ‘player of the tournament’ award.
Vincent Pereira compered the programme. Torpy Engineering Consultants was the main sponsor of the programme. Jifco Trading LLC Dubai was the co-sponsor while Evolin Paint and Varnish Trading LLC Dubai, Arun D'Souza, Juliet D'Souza and family were the support sponsors.
Boniface Carlo, main coordinator and Vincent Pereira, sports coordinator were instrumental for the success of this event.
