Mangalore: 'Extraordinary Konkani Person Awards - 2009' Announced

Mangalore, Jun 23: Konkani Prachar Sanchalan (Regd) in association with Mandd Sobhann (Regd), has announced the conferring of the 'Extraordinary Konkani Person Awards - 2009', to celebrate 'Konkani Manyata Divas (Konkani Recognition Day)'. The announcement was made at a press conference held here on Monday, June 22.
Those who have excelled in the fields of studies (rank and gold medal winners), arts (unparalleled achievers in music, dance, theatre, painting etc), sports and games (medals at state, national and international events) and rare talents (extraordinary memory, knowledge or any unique feats). These awards will be given to 43 Konkanis (irrespective of dialect, caste, creed or regional affiliations), from the very young to the very old, in 12 different categories, it was announced.
The 12 different categories are as below:
Pre-primary
Primary
Higher Primary
High School
PUC
College/Professional courses
Post Graduation
Those who do not come under any of these above categories can contest in the below given categories. But in the below given categories will be eligible only to stake their claim in Arts, Sports & Games and Rare Talents. Persons representing these categories will not be able to contest in the filed of Studies
Categories are:
15 yrs and below (born on or after 20.08.'94)
Above 15 yrs and below 20 yrs (born between 20.08.'89 and 19.08.94)
Above 20 yrs and below 40 yrs (born between 20.08.'69 and 19.08.89)
Above 40 yrs and below 60 yrs (born between 20.08.'49 and 19.08.'69)
60 yrs and above (born on or before 19.08.'49)
The awards ceremony will be held at 4 pm on August 20 this year, at Kalangann here. The awards will comprise of cash award, trophy, certificate, title and honour. From among the 43 recipients of the 'Extraordinary Konkani Person - 2009' award, one will be selected to receive the 'Most Extraordinary Konkani Person - 2009' award, it was informed.
The organizers said, those willing to be considered for the awards, will have to collect rules from Kalaangann/ Ganesh Bazaar/ Jerosa Co/ Rahul Ads/ Patrao Stationery / School Book Co in the city or visit: www.kalaangann.com. They then will have to register their names by calling Kalaangann on phone No. 2232239/2230489. They have to appear for the selection process to be held from 9.30 am onwards at Kalaangann on Sunday August 17, 2009.
