Mangalore, Jun 21:  An attempt to abduct a City advocate for ransom and murder was foiled by the District Crime Intelligence Bureau minutes before it could be executed on Saturday, June 20. DCIB police have arrested nine members of an underworld gang along with 9 mm pistol, ten live rounds, a bike, car, an autorickshaw, eight mobile phones and several sharp weapons.

The nine persons were arrested based on a complaint by an advocate, which the police refused to disclose, at Mangalore East police station that a group of three youngsters came to his office at the Bunts Hostel on Saturday and demanded to pay up money at the gun point. They also threatened him that if he failed to meet the demand he will be kidnapped in the evening and subsequently killed.

Gathering information on the gangs and finally zeroing in a gang, DCIB police immediately sprung into action and arrested five members on a definite information that the gang was proceeding towards the advocate’s office intercepted a car at Karangalpady near Bunts Hostel in the City. The five arrested and identified as Anish Shetty, Harisha alias Cocaine Harish, Deekshit Poojary, Deepak Poojary and Aneesh Leepak Lasrado.

On questioning the boys immediately confessed to the crime and said that they had planned to abduct the advocate to a secret location in Kambalapadavu near Konaje. On further interrogation, the five members gave out the name of the four more gang members who were at the secret location at Konaje and also that the gang members were working under the direction of Koraga Vishwanth Shetty, an underworld don living abroad. The names of the four members later arrested are Ajay Karkera, Ganesh, Nawaz and Lokesh Devadiga.

Inspector general of police (western range) Gopal B Hosur briefing the media, said that it is a major murder case that the police team foiled in the recent times. DCIB team was awarded with Rs 25,000. He also added that the police was examining on imposition of KCOCA Act on the accused.

Superintendent of police Subrahmanyeswar Rao said that this is the third underworld gang, which the police have nabbed, recently. Rasheed Malabari and his associates arrested in March and Ravi Poojary’s gang who were behind Advocate Naushad’s murder case were the other two, he said.

As a move towards providing relief to the public and preventing extortion cases, the recent arrests could be considered as a major achievement, he said.

It is matter of relief to see Our Senior police officers along with the juniors acting fast in the matter and arresting the gang which perhaps was engaged in other crimes too. I have known Mr. Gopal Hasur, Dr. A.S.Rao and Mr. Dilip as soft spoken persons but when it comes to action they do not spare any one. Mangalore need people of this caliber and it is my hope that ere long most of the underworld people will come under the Police net. Kudos to you Mr. Hasur, Dr. Rao and Mr. Dilip. Joe Gonsalves

People need not worry as long as IGP Mr.Gopal Hosur is in action. He doesn''t care anyone whether criminals or politicians. I want to remind you agian that he was one of the officers who fought with Veerappan in the thick forest.

He was very badly injured when Veerappan & Co. fired at him. Veerappan left him thinking that he was dead !! He investigated some nail biting criminal cases. Government of Karnataka has been forced to send him to Mangalore to control Mafia dons.

He arrested Rasheed Malabari and team. Now Koraga Shetty and team within 2 months.Daiji please interview this brave officer ..you will get stunning information about encounter, theft, robbery which he solved as a police officer.

I feel its a real great job that the cops got them at the right time. But one thing in particular is DONT COVER their faces. Show the GUILTY to the general public so that it becomes a shame to them as well as their families. By covering their faces we dont know if they may have done other crimes and absconding before. Hats off to the cops again.

Universally while publishing, it is better to cover protection force for safety reasons and expose criminals'' identity to society if legally permitted. Golden words: Eradicate corruption for a better society. Good job.

Great Job indeed. Again it shows the capacity and calibre of our Police that if they intend to save someone they can do it at any given time and situation, and if they don''t want it then.... Advocate Naushad!! Interestingly this fresh incident coincides with the Notice by the State Human Rights Commission to the Police on handing over the Naushad Murder Case to CBI for the investigations and the announcement of Naushad''s Relatives to approach Supreme Court in this regard.

So, has this fresh plot and arrest got any thing to do with the latest developments? One morequestion why the Identity of the complainant and the accused in this case is kept secret?

A great and commendable job by the police. The citizens should support and co operate with the police. When they do some good and just action, it must be approeciated. It should not be our motive to nag them repeatedly and always find fault with them. After all they too are human beings like us.
