    Dubai, June 21: Udentichim Neketram, Moodbidri Varado Catholic Association organized a floodlit family cricket match at Zabeel Park, Dubai from 2.00 pm to 11.00 pm on Friday June 19.
     
    Well-known personality, author and writer of  17 novels and more than 250 short stories Stan Agera, Mulky was the chief guest of the event and formally inaugurated the match at  5.00 pm along with President, Vice-President and Sports Secretary. Welcome speech was delivered by association president Lawrence D’ Souza, Moodbidri. The tournament was compered by Ullas Fernandes Siddakate and Richard Saldanha Sampige.
     
    The under-arm tournament was exclusively for the members of the association and the parishioners of the Moodbidri Varado. The main purpose of the tournament was to create sporting environment among all the families of the Moodbidri Varado and thus bring them together as one family. There were ten teams with equal participation of women and children apart from men. Initially, though it was a six- over match, gradually it was reduced to five or four over match as per the time schedule.



















     

    The teams had traditional native names of Moodbidri Varado village such as Handel Suttu, Kondja Pathor, Kodangalu, Kodyadka, Kadalakere, Kesargadde, Konne Padav, Karimale, Marnad and Puche Mogur. As per the cricketing rules of the association one over was to be bowled by the women and it was witnessed that they were very effective. The special attraction of the tournament was the two teams that entered the final, both of which were lead by lady captains.

    All the events of the day was well organised by tournament committee members Rudolf Sanctis (Sports Secretary), Rajesh Alvares, Vincent D’Costa, Deepak D’Silva and Richard Saldanha. The tournament was held to a packed audience with more than 275 people witnessing the cricket matches at the stadium.

    9) Best Female Fielder – Ivy Lobo
    10) Highest Sixes – Selvin Fernandes 
    11) Decent Team – Kodangal Team lead by Wilfred Fernandes, Vamadapadav
    12) Man of the Match – Semi Final 1 – Deril D’Souza
    13) Man of the Match – Semi Final 2 – Selvin Fernandes
    13) Best Child Player Boy – Meldon Cardoza, Tacode
    14) Best Child Player Girl – Ria D’Souza, Moodbidri 
    15) Highest Scorer of each Match

    The vote of thanks was delivered by sports secretary Rudolf Sanctis-Sampige who thanked the participants, organizers, sponsors and the volunteers for their tremendous support. Sanctis also thanked sponsors Lawrence D’ Souza of Al Raien Metalic Ind., Sharjah, who is also the association president, Melwin Cardoza of Al Shay Restaurant and Divesh Alva of Chavadi Restaurant. The delicious food was served by Chavadi Restaurant, Bur Dubai.
