Udupi: BJP's Gerald Fernandes new ZP President

Udupi: BJP's Gerald Fernandes new ZP President
by Wilson SHirva
Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SB)

Udupi, Jun 19:
Young BJP leader George Gerald Fernandes, who hails from Moodubelle near here was unanimously elected president of Udupi zilla panchayat (ZP) on Friday June 19.

Outgoing president Babu who ruled 20 months has completed his term. The seat of Udupi ZP president was supposed to be reserved for backward community. However, a stay from highcourt against the same made way for Gerald, who was elected under general quota. Udupi ZP comprises 144 gram panchayats and three taluks that include Kundapur, Udupi and Karkala.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Gerald said, "I have been working for the people and the post is an add on responsibility. I will try my best to meet the expectation of the people."

Gerald has been in politics since 15 years. His foray into politics was through Congress in 1994. But differences with former minister Vasanth V Salian forced him to join BJP in 2000.

A grassroot level worker he has been helpful to the people of Moodubelle and surroundings irrespective of their caste, creed and religion.

Gerald can be contacted at 0091 - 9448983324

Now that both the places BJP is ruling, you can deliver better. Wish you success in your tenure, to proove that honest people are more efficient in delivering welfare programmesto the needy in the society irrespective of caste or creed.

"Mr.George Jerald Fernandes has proved to be a succesful leader" Some of our christian think that only christian community is under attack, actually speaking all other communities are also under attack. Since we don''t have our leaders in all the political parties, we are getting this inferior feeling. We christian think that we all should be in one party,it was long back that people used to believe, but now the trend has changed.

We should have leader like Jerald in all the political parties. He really deserve that.It shows his hard work and sweat towards the people. As our personal experience,we could say he has done so much to his native[ie.Moodubelle]and also the neighbering places like Shirva,shankerpura,Udyavara.....and many more.[Be it for our christian schools, getting grants for pre-university,B.Ed college, rural development like roads and water supply and the shelter for homeless ppl from all the communities. Let us not hunt for good people let us support our people to be good. At the same time let all of us remember BJP is just a political party it doesn''t give good or bad leaders, that is we who criticise the leaders. He is a role model to others. We christians should be proud of him.

He is the second zp president of our dioces. Let us not dig the matters what had happened in the past with the other leaders.Let us not expect that he should work for religious cause. Let everyone not recognise Jerry with the political party, let us admire and praise him with what he has done. LET US BE TOGETHER AND SALUTE FOR JERRY. ALL THE BEST AND KEEP IT UP.

Geroge Fernanades acted as though he was more of bjp than bjp itself when he gave a clean chit to the killers of Graham Steins saying that it was not done by the sangh parivar. Geroge Fernanades as convenor of nda served the purpose bjp agenda more than standing for justice forget about stnading by the community. Now he is NON ENTITY.

Well known writer Geroge Menezes of Bombay had joined bjp thinking that it was disciplined party. Today he regrets for having joined that party.

Mr.Sangliana when cricised for contesting from bjp ticket he said that he would not get influenced by the communal agenda of bjp instead he would shout the name of Jesus in parliament. He got suffocated when prayer hall in Magalore was attacked by the communal elements belonging to the parivar of which his party was member.

Later when he cross voted during the confidence motion on nuclear deal the abusive words(as mentioned by him) hurled at him by the state president of bjp are not decent enough to mention here. Mr. Gerald from bjp is the president of Udupi Zila panchyat. Congratulations Mr. Gerlad and all the best.

IF THE COMMUNITY DOESN''T BENEFIT ANYTHING IT IS ALRIGHT BUT LETS HOPE THAT THE COMMUNITY WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY A PRICE BECASUE A MEMEBR OF OUR COMMUNITY FROM BJP HAS BECOME THE PRESIDENT OF ZILA PANCHAYAT.

Dear George Borromeo, I don''t think I fully agree with you. We should encourage dissent in a democratic setup. You should oppose or support something based on right vs wrong. Not based on your religion. Think about this way - There are many hindus who genuinely believe that their religion is under attack. So, they support parties such as BJP. At the same time, there are millions of other Hindus, who support parties like Congress(I). Imagine what will happen all Hindus start supporting BJP? So, I think you are wrong in calling out Gerald for what he believes is the right thing to do. Instead, we should be encouraging more minorities in BJP - It''s a good thing for minority.

I remember, that when Mr.Sangliana, an ardent christian, joined Communal BJP,Media confronted him. Then he replied, that he will change it''s image as anti minority Party. However when he felt that he can not change BJP''s characteristics he cross voted for Congress in crucial no confidence motion vote. Why I brought this topic as my neighbor, a veteran politician, a corporator was defending BJP''s action during recent attacks on our own and his own community in MCC Council.

My point was If you can''t oppose them as you are with them openly, then you do not vociferously defend them. Unfortunately he too was in Congress for a long tenure, when he was not rewarded Mayor Post, he changed side. Still he is hopefull of geting that post. hence my prayer to newly elected Panchayath President George Fernandes from Moodbelle, kindly do not follow party politics blindly,If your Community is under attack for frivolus reason, oppose it. Then only you shall be respected in this society. All the best.
