Puttur: ‘Prathibha 2019’ competitions held for St Philomena High School students

Puttur, Aug 2: St Philomena High School here on August 2 held ‘Prathibha 2019’ district level inter school competitions for high school students on the eve of the silver jubilee celebrations of its pre university college. The programme held to unveil the talents of students was inaugurated by the school alumni, proprietor of Darbe Prakash dental clinic Dr Srikash Bangaradka.

College convener Fr Alfred John Pinto, who presided over the programme, commended the programme that is being held to identify the talents of high school students every year for the last four years. “The Almighty bestows one or the other talent to children. Life becomes effective when it is made use of. Students can reach their goal when they proceed with confidence and punctuality. They should have respect and humility toward their teachers and elders,” he said.

St Philomena Pre University College principal Professor Leo Noronha said that the college has been encouraging students to identify their talents. “Students should have the quality of making use of their talents when they get an opportunity. Their lives will shine when they have determination to face criticism and failures,” he said.

College campus director and postgraduate research center head Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro said that the honor received for talent is greater than the one received for degree. “We can see in the students who have come here that students do not need teaching when they have discipline in them. The programme today has become excellent with the guidance from the principal and the encouragement from teachers and students.”

St Philomena Pre-University College principal Fr Vijay Lobo welcomed the gathering and gave an introductory address.

High school headmaster Oswald Rodrigues, alumni association president A J Rai, parent teacher association president Shashikumar Rai Balkottu were on the dais. Students prayed under the guidance of Kannada department lecturer Sumana Prashanth. Programme organizer Ashwini K rendered the vote of thanks. Lecturer Suma introduced the lecturers. Professor Philomena Monteiro, Divya K, management staff Martin D’Souza, student association president Shobhit Rai, secretary Satyatya, joint secretary Calin D’Souza welcomed the guests with flower bouquets. Commerce department lecturer Santhosh Clarence D’Souza compered the programme.

Ten cultural competitions were held which were quiz, Kannada and English seminar, best out of waste, painting, pencil sketch, clay modeling, science model, product launching, collage and janapada dances.

More than 500 students from 34 colleges in the district took part in the programme. Students from 34 high schools took part in the competitions.
