Mangaluru: Dengue awareness programme held at St Mary’s PU College

Mangaluru, Aug 1: To spread awareness of dengue and promote and provide a safer and healthier environment, St Mary’s College organized a dengue awareness campaign on July 31.

A special assembly was organized by Sr Sagaya Mary, principal and Smitha Karat, Biology lecturer to acquaint the students and staff about the symptoms, preventive and remedial measures of dengue thereby encouraging the students to spread awareness about the disease amongst students, among their family members and their neighbourhood.

Smitha and students went on a larva hunting drive, to identify and destroy mosquito larva in the campus. Some larva samples were brought to the campaign to show to the students.



Through this campaign, major emphasis was laid on preventing stagnation of water, which often becomes breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Concluding remarks were given by the principal along with homework to collect larva from their surroundings. She also announced classwise prizes for the students who collect the highest amount of larva.
