Udupi: Field trip held for X std students of St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady

Udupi, Aug 1: The students of St Mary’s English Medium School (CBSE), Kannarpady, Udupi ventured into a field trip to experience the practical knowledge of farming in a paddy field.

As many as 25 students of X std accompanied by the principal of the school Fr Johnson L Sequeira, teachers Vinay Suvarna, Linet J Castelino and Jagadish Acharya spent half a day on Wednesday, July 31, Wednesday in the paddy field of Mahesh Suvarna, Durganagara near Shankarpura as a part of their Social Science assessment required by the CBSE Board.

The students interacted with the young farmer Mahesh Suvarna and his family and clarified their doubts regarding farming. Later the students got into the field where they planted paddy saplings enthusiastically. They planted the saplings in the hot sun for more than an hour. After this children were demonstrated with electronic milking process. Students were also shown the jasmine plants and the history of the famous ‘Shankerpura Mallige’ was described to them.



At the end Mahesh Suvarna and his family was presented with a gift as a token of love by the principal on behalf of the school.

On the whole the field trip provided a memorable and practical experience to the St Marians. Students enjoyed this field trip and learnt so many things.
