Udupi: NEMS School parliament for new academic year inaugurated

Udupi, Jun 8: The Nirmala English Medium School, Brahmavar held their School parliament to elect students representative as SPL (School Pupil Leader) and ASPL (Assistant School Pupil Leader) on June 6. Voting at Nirmala School was for students from classes 6 to 10. Three students of Class X contested for SPL and three students of Class IX for ASPL’s post. Elections this time were held at the school auditorium.

Kavitha welcomed the gathering and gave instructions to the students. The scouts and guides scrutinised the voting tables with ballot papers and ink. Principal Fr Joslie D’Silva OFM Cap, called the students to vote the right candidate (leader of the school) saying, “A leader is one who knows the way, shows the way and goes the way.”

Being the first exposure to voting system, students of class six were given instructions of the whole process starting from marking of ‘ink’ on the right forefinger to the way of casting their votes. Contestants, from classes IX and X introduced themselves and if they were chosen, promised to render their services to the school loyally. The school’s auditorium turned into a polling booth where five voting tables were placed on either side to enable faster voting. It started at 2.30 pm and ended at 4.00 pm.



The total number of students present for voting was 237.

When all the votes were counted, Sugam G Nayak of Class X was declared winner as SPL and Sinchan of Class IX as ASPL.
