Bangalore, Mar 18:  A senior IPS officer, who is also related to Maharashtra chief minister Ashok chavan, is in the dock for amassing illegal property worth several crores.

When Lokayukta officials raided the House of Hemanth Nimbalkar, they found documents of two flats in Daadar in Mumbai worth Around Rs 1 crore.

The officers found that the six rooms of the two flats are air conditioned apart from having expensive electronic gadgets in each room.

The Lokayukta police said that Nimbalkar flats in the name of his wife Dr Anjali’s at Yashraj Sah Nivas Co-op Housing Society at Dadar East. The officer’s wife also owns two acres of land in Katagali village on Khanapur road in Belgaum. The Lokayukta justice Santosh Hegde said that the officials couldn’t search the flats as Nimbalkar’s wife had gone to her college as she was doing her MD.

According to the officials Nimbalkar has been  head of the district police in Bellary, Belgaum and Mandya district before shifted to State Anti-terror Cell. Despite transfer orders Hemanth refused to move out from the previous post as the present post was non-executive which does not yield “revenue”.

Nimbalkar joined the IPS 10 years back but soon bought properties worth crores within five years, which attracted Lokayukta‘s attention.

Preliminary valuation for the properties so far seized estimated to be around one crore , but there are many properties which are in the Benami names , the officials admits . We have got information that Apart from Maharastra Nimbalkar has made properties in Delhi and other cities, which are under scanner.

Because Nimbalkar owns properties such as houses, apartments and farm land in Belgaum, Kolhapur and Mumbai. Most of these are in prime locations – and cost far beyond his known income in the IPS of 25 lakh rupees.
