Mangalore: Surmani Mahalakshmi Shenoy Conferred Abhinav Kala Samman Award

Mangalore, Mar 17: 'Surmani' Mahalakshmi Shenoy Karkala, a popular young Hindustani vocalist, was honoured with the prestigious "Abhinav Kala Samman”, a national-level award in Bhopal on Friday March 13.

The award was presented by Abhinav Kala Parishat on the eve of the 39th annual Vasantotsav, a three-day music and dance festival. Mahalakshmi presented a superb display of Hindustani classical and devotional singing that left the audience spellbound.

Mahalakshmi is a prominent vocal disciple of Pt Vishwamohan Bhat.

Mahalakshmi has won "Surmani"(2007), National Inter-university Award in Classical Music at Chennai (2007), Samskrithi Darshan Award- 2008 by Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri and many more in the recent years.
