Mangalore: 'Souhardotsava' Brings Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Others Together

Mangalore, Mar 14: Sania Media Mangalore led by young and enterprising Ismail Moodushedde, as in the last five years, brought people of all religions under one roof together this year too, to celebrate the anniversary of Sania Media. People from all walks of life, irrespective of their linguistic and religious affiliations, came together at Town Hall here, to witness the ‘Pancha Bhasha Souhardotsava' held on Friday March 13. The venue overflowed with Hindus, Muslims, and Christians etc who came together and unitedly expressed their unstinted solidarity for the humanity and the welfare of the mankind.

Special attraction of the occasion was a multi-linguistic poetry session that was organized with the participation of top poets from five languages, who recited their poems. Some of these poems were transformed into songs and beautifully presented to the audience in a melodious way, in the voices of Mangalore's ace singer Ravindra Prabhu and Sangeetha Balachandra. The tunes for the poems were set by Ravindra Prabhu. Multi-linguistic poet Mohammed Baddoor inaugurated the session.  Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla presided. Dr Haneef Shabab, Urdu poet, was the special invitee. Other renowned poets who took part in the event were Ramesh Kedilaya, Sudha Nagesh and Aarathi Patrame from Kannada, Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli and Raghu Idkidu from Tulu, Ibrahim Tannirbavi from Beary language and Melvyn Rodrigues from Konkani.

Later, the Souhardotsava was symbolically inaugurated by releasing the pigeons by Khusro Qureshi, president of the minority delegation of Karnataka government, S Ganesh Rao, founder of Karavali group of colleges and Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com.

Speaking on the occasion, Khusro Qureshi said that, releasing of pigeons into the sky signifies becoming free birds and enjoying the freedom. Today, the symbolic inauguration of Souhardotsava gives out the message to everyone that we are independent and we should be given a free hand to practice the traditions we believe in, he stressed.

Ganesh Rao and Walter Nandalike too spoke on the occasion and wanted more such programmes to be held here, as the city is badly in need of such rejuvenating events.

Seven achievers from across different religions were also felicitated during the programme for their achievement in their respective fields. They were Tungappa Bangera, zilla panchayat member, Rameshchandra, well known playback singer, Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, member, Tulu Sahithya Academy, Agnel Rodrigues, Coastal Times and Prasar Kongni television channels, K K Noushad of Shads group, Suresh Shetty Yeyyadi, president, Mulund Friends, Mumbai, Rahim Uchil, Beary Sahitya Academy and Dhanraj of national award winning 'Koti Chennaya' film.

Ex-president of Central Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor, D K District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and Mumtaz Ali did the honours along with other guests on the dais.

Ismail Moodushedde welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests. Rahim Uchil proposed vote of thanks. Radio Mirchi RJ Jyothi Saligrama compered the programme.

Artistes Junior Rajkumar (Abbas), Junior Rafi and Junior Mukesh entertained the crowd with the soulful rendering of Tulu and Beary songs.
