Mumbai, Feb 5: Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli on Wednesday announced his foray into politics by joining local outfit Lok Bharati as its national vice-president.

He also declared the launch of a new sports academy in collaboration with journalist Dwarkanath Sanzgiri, at a media conference in Mumbai.

"After the November 26 terror attacks, citizens of Mumbai, including myself, felt the need for a change and are demanding new politics. Hence I decided to be part of it and joined politics," Kambli told reporters.

The former left-handed batsman claimed to have received invitations to join big national parties but decided to spurn the offers and join the Lok Bharati.

"I had invitations from other parties for plum posts, but I chose Lok Bharati as I have seen them work closely. They have worked immensely to spread awareness about education," said the player, who added, he himself had failed in the SSC exam.
