Mangalore, Jan 24:
City-based animal care activists on Friday January 23 rescued three dogs that had been trapped in an abandoned well for a week.

A city lawyer informed activists of Animal Care Trust (ACT) on Friday about the plight of the dogs.

ACT activists equipped with ropes managed to reach the bottom of the abandoned well and rescued two exhausted stray dogs and a pet dog (with a tag around its neck). The pet dog belonged to someone in the neighbourhood and somehow fell into the well along with other stray dogs.

A guard from the nearby apartment block dropped some loaves of bread into the well for the dogs to eat while a medical student lowered a bucketful of water, and this helped sustained them for so long.

ACT activists rescued all three dogs and are nursing them at their shelter here. The dogs will be kept under observance for a week till they recover and will be released after being sterilized.
