Udupi: Three-day annual media event of SOC ‘Article 19’ to begin from Feb 7

Udupi, Feb 6: The annual media event of the School of Communication (SOC) organised and managed by the students, will take place this year on the February 7, 8 and 9. The event would comprise primarily of talks given by eminent media personnel, along with an array of competitive and cultural events.

In 2019 edition of Article 19, where distinguished personalities will come and share their experiences with student. This is a place where students will get everything to mould their personality through inspiring speech. It is including informative lectures, film screening and discussions, exciting completions and games and fulfilled activities.

The inauguration function will be held at SOC Auditorium, Manipal here on February 7 at 9.30 am.

Dr Narayan Sabhahit, Registrar, MAHE will be presided over the inaugural function. The chief guest of the event is Anand Ranganathan, eminent scientist and author, JNU. Guest of the honour is Bobby Wahengbam, Manipuri author and director.
SOC director Dr Padma Rani, faculty coordinator of Article 19 Praseed Nair and students of SOC, faculties will be present at the programme.

First speaker

Anand Ranganathan
Topic: Science, Selectivity and Public Discourse.
Time: 10:30-12.00

Swarajya's consulting editor and columnist Anand Ranganathan will join the students to speak on the topic "Science. Selectivity and Public Discourse", followed by the inaugural ceremony.

Second speaker

Date: Thursday, February 7
Bobby Wahengbam
Topic: interaction session
Time: 3:00- 4:30

Manipuri author and director, Bobby Wahengbam, who is credited for bringing cinema from Manipur to the centre stage. This is going to be the second speaker, who will be interacting with the audience on the afternoon of February 7.

Nag Ashwin
Topic: film "Mahanati (interaction session)

Time: 11:30- 1:30

Renowned Telugu film director and esteemed SOC alumnus, Nag Ashwin is going to host an interactive session post the screening of his award-winning film ‘Mahanati’, on February 8.

Fourth speaker

Date: Friday, February 8
Omar Mohammed
Topic: Mosul Eye
Time: 2:30-4:00

Omar Mohammed, better known as the "Mosul Eye", Iraqi historian and citizen journalist, who through his news blog, has brought out the adversities of Islamic extremist groups in Mosul. Omar Mohammed is going to join the students through a live, online session from France.

Fifth speaker

Date: February 9
Archishman ‘FeTT’ Pradhan
Topic: The Scenario of eSports in India
Time: 10:30-12:30

The fifth speaker is Archishman ‘FeTT’ Pradhan, eSports player and content developer in the field of gaming and technology, who is going to discuss "The Scenario of eSports in India", on Saturday, February 9.

Besides the seminars held by the different speakers, there are also going to be various online and offline competitions, in the field of fine arts, writing and even sports, giving the incoming delegates from media institutions across the nation a holistic experience. The event will also be presented with a tinge of cultural programmes, including the Express Awards, a formal awards ceremony where prizes for all competitions will be given. The quadrangle of the college premises is going to be painted per the theme. The valedictory ceremony will mark the conclusion of the three-day event, before giving it a casual and fun turn in Funfair. This year, the theme is the ‘Academy of Villains’.
