Mangalore, Jan. 21: Knowledge is treasure, and students should acquire it through struggle. Education empowers our society, said K Rahaman Khan, deputy speaker, Rajya Sabha.

He was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the platinum jubilee celebrations of Badriya Educational Institutions held at Town Hall.

“If we look at our leaders from the past, they were keen about the education of society. They struggled to get an education. In Quran, there is ‘jehad; which means ‘to struggle’, but it’s misunderstood as ‘struggle to  kill’, he  said.

Ahmed Haji Mohiyuddin, president, Muslim Educational Association, presided over the function. Veerappa  Moily, chairman, Administrative Reforms  Committee of  India, also spoke.
