Puttur, Jan 17: Relating to an incident in which a gang of robbers entered the home of physician Dr P Shivahsnkar Shastry located in Nellyadi Hosamajalu on national highway 48 on July 26, 2006 and decamped with cash and jewellery, the first additional district sessions court has sentenced six accused to seven years of rigorous imprisonment each.

Oruminute Abbas from Uppinangadi Gandhi Park had led the robbers. He had entered the house of the said doctor in the guise of enquiring about the availability of spare gas cylinder for his Omni car and then tied up the couple with the help of his accomplices.  Gold ornaments worth two lac rupees and cash amounting to Rs 22,000 had been forcibly taken away by the gang and the Uppinangady police station personnel had succeeded in arresting the robbers and recovering the lost assets from them within 10 days of the incident.

Oruminute Abbas, Masood, Mohammed Bawa, Eshwar, Sayyed and Dileep involved with the crime, were arrested. Puttur rural police circle inspector K Manjunath Rai had filed charge sheet against them in the court. During the period the accused were on bail, Masood from Moodigere had disappeared, never to be traced again.
