Mysore: State to Enact Law Banning Cow-Slaughter Soon - Home Minister

Mysore, Jan 16: Speaking after taking part in a public function organized  to offer Puja to cows at Pinjarpole in the city on Wednesday January 14 on the occasion of Makara Sankranti, state home minister V S Acharya said that the state government is determined to enact law banning cow-slaughter in the state, soon.

"It would be wrong to sit quiet and helplessly watch as cows get slaughtered day in and day out. The government is prepared to initiate legal remedies to put an end to the practice. There is a need to ban cow-slaughter as it hurts the sentiments of majority of people," he explained.

At present, those involved with cow-slaughter are tried under section 48 of the Indian Penal Code. The government will take a decision in the matter of banning the cow-slaughter in the legislative session to be convened soon. Strict action will be taken against cow-traffickers and the vehicles used for the purpose would be confiscated, he warned.

“The government has decided  to open cow shelters in all the 27 districts of the state. In addition to providing 20 acres of land for the purpose, grant of Rs 10 lac would be provided for such shelters,” he explained.

Sri Trinetrananda Swamiji of Baby Math, Sri Basavalingamurthy Sharana of Murugha Math, Urilingapeddi Math Sri Jnanaprakasha Swamiji, MP C H Vijayshankar, parliamentary affairs secretary to the chief minister S A Ramadas, MLA H S Shankarlinge Gowda, MLCs Siddarajaua, Tontadarya and several other dignitaries were present.
