Maharashtra Deputy CM R R Patil Resigns

PTI

MUMBAI, Dec 1: Maharashtra deputy chief minister R R Patil, who was in the crosshairs in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks, resigned on Monday.

"I have submitted my resignation letter to chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. I have gone by my conscience and decided to take this step," Patil said.

The Maharastra deputy chief minister said this in the aftermath of the criticism following Mumbai terror strikes.

"I pondered over the issue the whole night yesterday. Finally, I have decided to quit as per my conscience," Patil said.

Patil's resignation follows the exit of the union home minister Shivraj Patil, who put in his papers to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday, after the Congress Working Committee spoke disapprovingly of the home minister, in light of the Mumbai carnage and other terror strikes in the country.

The Maharashtra deputy chief minister, who was also in charge of the state Home Ministry, was under severe criticism following the terror attacks with opposition Shiv Sena and BJP demanding his resignation alleging that he failed to handle the situation.

Patil belongs to the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party and hails from Sangli district in western Maharashtra.

Sharad Pawar has asked the Maharashtra chief minister to accept the resignation of the deputy chief minister R R Patil.

"I have told the chief minister to accept the resignation of Patil," Pawar said.

The NCP chief and agriculture minister said Patil was feeling "uneasy" since the terror strikes and he had expressed his desire to step down three days back

The head to roll next may be the present Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Desmukh.

The Congress leadership is annoyed with Patil, particularly because of his insensitive remark on Saturday where he sought to play down the enormity of the jihadi atrocity against Mumbai, almost likening it to a routine law and order incident which is common in any big city.

On Saturday, Patil had described the Mumbai carnage as a "small incident" that "can happen in big cities."

Pradip D'Souza, Stop munching the same chewing gum. The church attack is too old and forgotten. Now concentrate on the one that is in the news. What if the terrorist would have attacked your churches and shot you and your family like they did in Mumbai? Reply.. Well the churches, Temple, mosque are made of bricks and wall and can be rebuilt. can you  human lives. Gone are the days we understood that human lives are in the hands of God, No! RR Patil should be given a Security job in Oberoi or Taj. Let us see whether he is fit for that job atleast. If not he should be given a job in Muncipality to clear Garbage. So Mumbai will remain clean.

Resignation will not solve the problem, Everyone should unite and come in one platform to fight against terrorism and communlism. R.R patils resignation would exhibit cheers to some bar dancers and organizers. Everyone should respect each religion and avoid communal riots. Terrorist was born becuase of us and our communal riots offcours supported by dirty politicians.

Well said Eulalia,if we had been careful enough to choose an able, responsible govt by our votes, no one would have dared enter our waters by ships or boats!! Sometimes I feel India should be ruled atleast for 2 years by the Military and all these culpable politicians be it any party should be jailed for life.NSG's should be reserved for all major cities, not only Delhi and northern states.A separate unpoliticised body should be made for curbing all anti terrorist activity.CCTV'S should be installed in bulk in all major railway stations, for if one cctv could capture the image of the terrorist imagine many such more would have been so helpful.last but not the least other than major heads of state, politicians, filmstars, celebrities should not even be allowed to go near any such sensitive sites,God forbid in future.enough is enough.

We are worried of militants creating havoc in India. What about our own Indian brothers creating similar acts in Orissa and Karnataka like burning churches, attacking religious leaders, destroying property, disrespecting nuns, and creating a total unstable environment with all this violence. We need to clean ourselves before we start pointing fingers at others.

All the officials and the political leaders have to be held responsible for the lapse in security. Now they are resigning one by one and escaping from their responsibility. That is not the solution. Resigning is not enough they need to be answerable to the public who have paid taxes for their salary. They have failed in their duty, so they need to be brought before the law. It is a lesson for other officials, politicians, lest all will resign conveniently and wash their hands.

Politics again, even at this time when they need to act and not to play Politics with crisis like this..!! Just by resigning will things be restored back to normalcy? Is resignation answer to the failures? They should have been bold enough to accept defeat in performing their duty & try to sort out the issue rather than just washing hands by resigning now. If one has to go by media reports, it was known to Intelligence agencies about the proposed terrorist attack. The warning must have been taken casually like any other time & we see what's happened. Politicians must have been busy re arranging their own security & also securing their chairs and least bothered about people's security.  God save us from these Politicians & their Politics. To end I just want to quote this : WE NEED NOT WORRY MUCH ABOUT THOSE WHO HAVE COME BY BOATS. BUT WE MUST WORRY AND BEWARE ABOUT THOSE WHO COME THROUGH OUR VOTES. JAI HIND ...

Stop all these allegations, blaming each others, resignations etc.etc. Whatever happens and whoever comes our relation with our neighbor country will never change in another 2,500 years, We never be friends. So, why all these naatak. Stop all these nonsense like combined cultural activities, reality shows, cricket matches, train & bus services and opening the borders for trade.

First seal the borders. Immigrants come to India to visit their forefathers and never go back. Try to pin them and throw them out of Indian soil first. Raj Takare should have done this instead focusing on north Indians, he would have got the support from the Indians.

Secondly, we are sending mission ‘Chandrayana’ on moon and thinking of sending human being on moon soon, but we cannot safe guard our costal. We are spending billions on space mission but our NSG are still using the same rifles leftovers from the World War II ! Instead of spending billions on these space missions why can’t we equip these NSG national heroes with latest weapons.

Year 2007-2008 was a disaster to India. Mumbai train blast, church attack, Bangalore bomb blast, Delhi bomb blast and all credit goes to our sick politicians who are sitting to fill their kitty. Politicians gave identity to people as minority and majority. Divide by caste and religion, soft on terror etc. What is the end-result only pain and agony. During the bomb blast the pain is one for all minority and majority. We the people should decide if we require this status given in charity as minority and majority. We need to call ourselves as citizen of a the largest democratic in the world.

Nothing is going to change by resigning nor if the govt is changed from congress to BJP because all the politicians are the same. They only think about themselves and their seat. The only way to change is to change ourselves so that we dont fight between ourselves and allow someone from outside to take the advantage of this We have to stay  as one . Politicians only try to separate us and fill their pockets.

What these politicians are upto !!??? When everything is normal they just sit and enjoy the office and when there is crisis they resign and sit idle. You think the new minister will be more capable of handling the crisis effectively than the existing one !!! By the time new minister take charge and understand the situation the crisis is over. Then another election and the person resigned will get an higher post than the earlier one !!! Am I right ??? Is this is called as good governance ???
