Mangalore: 'Bajarang Dal Celebrations Breach Ban Orders near Jail'

MANGALORE, Nov 2: A group of people celebrated the release of former Bhajrang Dal convener Mahendra Kumar, on bail, outside the district sub-jail here on Saturday, in open defiance of the ban orders in the area.

The group was led by Bajrang Dal leaders Sharan Pumpwell and Vinay L. Shetty and the Vishwa Hindu Parishat leader M.B. Puranik.

Responding to the breach of ban orders by the group, tahsildar for Mangalore taluk Raju Maghaveera said: “Ban orders were in place till 2 p.m. on Saturday. The violation occurred at 10 a.m. The police should have enforced the directive.”

The Barke Circle Inspector Umesh Shet said that he had received only oral instructions about the restraining orders.

He was under the perception that the ban orders were in fornce till Friday night, he added.

However, the tahsildar said that although initial orders were given verbally, written order was dispatched from his office later the same day.

District Magistrate M. Maheshwara Rao said: “I will immediately call for a report from the local police officers. We will file cases against the guilty, if we find there was violation of orders.”
