National award winning Tulu film 'Paddayi' to be screened at maiden edition of PIFF

Mangaluru, Sep 24: National Award Winner (2018) for Best Tulu film 'Paddayi' by Abhaya Simha will be screened at the maiden edition of the Pondicherry International Film Festival (PIFF), beginning on Wednesday, September 26.

Produced by Nithyananda Pai and directed by award-winning director Abhaya Simha from Mangaluru, the film is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It is the first Tulu film produced using sync sound technology and the first Tulu film to be inspired by Shakespeare’s work.

The film was shot in 21 days between August and October last in Mangaluru region. Many theatre artistes who were products of Ninasam of Heggodu have acted in the film, in addition to actors from Mangaluru.

The film was also chosen for screening in the New York Indian Film Festival 2018 from May 7 to May 12.

The PIFF will be held from September 26-30 in which more than 100 curated independent films from across the world, three world premieres, 11 Indian premieres, five special screenings and 47 movies are in competition.

The PIFF is organised by Indie cinema streaming platform PickurFlick, in association with Puducherry Tourism and will be conducted at the Alliance Française de Pondichéry, Multimedia Centre Auditorium, in association with Cinema Paradiso (Auroville) & Aurofilm (Auroville), J N Auditorium, Pondicherry University.
