Mumbai, Aug 13: ‘Kavithapatt’, a focused workshop to learn and understand poetry was organised by Ashawadi Prakashan on August 12 at Vasant Complex, Kandivali. Well known Konkani poet Uday N Mhambro from Goa, and Mahesh R Nayak from Mangaluru were guest poets who took part in the workshop.
Valley Quadras began the workshop giving a brief overview of 'Kavithapatt' monthly workshops held in Kuwait from 2004-2007, He presented a study article on poetry, giving overview of questions, such as 'Why one writes poetry? What is poetry?'. In his study article he spoke about Mathew Arnold, a noted critique and poet from England, and then about Uday N Mhambro's poems from the second anthology of poems 'Manashacya Sodhanth'.



Prasann Niddodi gave a detailed introduction of Uday N Mhambro and Mahesh R Nayak. Uday Mhambro spoke about his childhood, family and changing time and how this change is influencing his thinking. He said 'a poetry will not allow a poet to walk in the wrong path'. He also recited two of his poems, followed by Mahesh Nayak who recited his two Konkani poems.
On behalf of participants, Sharel D’Souza said, “Though we have learnt about basic poetry in schools, we did not have a platform to focus more towards poetry learning skills. Now since we have this platform, we are more confident to learn and understand poetry, and eventually start writing poetry in Konkani."
Valerian Pais, general secretary of Konkani Association in Kandivali, presented the vote of thanks. Host Linet D’Souza compered the programme, attended by 19 participants.
