Panaji, Sep 6: Goa police are probing a complaint against an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer and his wife for fraudulently drawing salary from the Goa secretariat fund. State-based NGO, Utt Goenkara, has filed a complaint against former information technology secretary R P Pal and his wife for drawing the salary of a false, non-muster roll (NMR), worker.

'We are probing the complaint and will register a case, if we find prima facie substance in it,' said Sammy Tavares, the officer attached to the state police's public relations office. This is the second complaint filed against Pal in the state.

In the first instance, Panaji police registered a complaint against the IAS officer after the NGO complained that his wife was drawing the salary of a sweeper from the city corporation. In the complaint filed today, Utt Goenkara, has contended that salary is being drawn in the name of one Mayarani Sharma, reporting her as a worker at his residence.

The NGO has contended that there is no servant with that name working at Pal's residence. One Rekha Kambli, working at his residence is already drawing salary from the Providoria department as he was also holding charge as secretary of Providoria.

The police complaint pleads that the IAS officer and his wife be prosecuted under sections 420, 406, 468, and 120 (B), of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for criminal breach of trust, forgery for the purpose of cheating, and criminal conspiracy. Pal was recently transferred to Lakshadweep and has been relieved from Goa government service.
