Goa Govt Issues Summons to Fiona Mackeown

Panaji, Sep 5: British teenager Scarlett eden Keeling's mother, Fiona Mackeown, will have to be present before the state government's department on September 12.

Goa government has issued summons to Fiona Mackeown, mother of British teenager scarlet Eden Keeling, for her alleged neglect of Scarlett on the day when she was found dead at Anjuna beach.

Women and child development department has issued summons to Fiona Mackeown under Goa Children's Act asking her to be present on September 12.

Fiona, a UK national, who had launched a massive campaign seeking justice to her daughter's death is now herself in the dock for neglecting the child.

Scarlett's bruised semi nude corpse was found at Anjuna beach following which two locals are arrested for drugging, raping and leaving Scarlett to die on the beach.

The summons follows the complaint filed Goa based Non Government Organisation Utt Goenkara alleging that on fateful day of February 18 when scarlett was found dead, her mother, Fiona had left her in unlawful custody in Goa.

Gadkar, in his summons, has said that prima facie he has found case to be inquired into the matter and hence Fiona should explain why action should not be initiated against her for violating Goa Children's Act.

The summons are issued under section 8 (1) (2) and (12) of Goa Children's Act.

Fiona's legal counsel Vikram Varma reacting to the summons said that his client would respond by tomorrow. "Fiona is in UK and I will have to email these summons to her," he said.

Earlier during the course of investigation, Fiona had feared that she would be prosecuted by the state police under Goa Children's Act. The state, however, had refrained from prosecuting Fiona under this section, which is a stringent one
