Mangalore: Inter-collegiate Music Competitions at Town Hall on Aug 28

Mangalore, Aug 26: The Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi district coastal musicians' federation will be organizing inter-collegiate music competitions and the first annual day celebrations of the federation at Town Hall, on Thursday, August 28, said Satish Suratkal, chief secretary of the federation on Monday, August 25, in a press conference.

Around 300 students from 30 colleges are likely to take part in the music competition with 12 colleges already enrolled, he added. Each college can have upto 12 members who will be allowed to use only essential musical instruments pertaining to their song. The categories will include devotional songs, folk music, group singing, and movie songs, both solo and group.

T G Gopalakrishna, retired artiste of Mangalore All India Radio, will inaugurate the music competitions at 9.00 am on Thursday while littérateur A Shivanand Karkera will be the chief guest.

S Ganesh Rao, chairman, Karavali Group of Colleges, will preside over the concluding ceremony at 6.00 pm on Thursday, while city mayor Ganesh Hosabettu, DYSP K Satheeeshkumar, MRPL deputy general manager Laxmi M Kumaran, BOC chief divisional manager Ullas M Kamat, sitar maestro Ustad Rafiq Khan, and Kishore D Shetty, convener, Lakumi Tulu drama troupe, will be the chief guests.

Prizes will be presented to the winners of various competitions and a musical extravaganza will be staged later, said Satish Suratkal. Federation president Sadashivadas Pandeshwar, Rajan Krishnadas,and Mahesh were also present at the press conference.
