Kolkata Lad to Officiate in Olympic Tennis

Kolkata, Jul 23: Abhishek Mukherjee, a white badge holder in tennis, is all set to officiate in the Beijing Olympics.

The 30-year-old has a tight schedule ahead as he has been appointed line judge and chair umpire for the US Open to be held from August 19.

Mukherjee is the only one from India to be selected for the last Grand Slam event of the year.

"I've been appointed as the line judge for the main US Open events while for the junior I'll be the chair umpire... It feels great to officiate in a Grand Slam and of course, Olympics," Mukherjee said.

Mukherjee had earlier officiated in the Australian Open for the first time and Wimbledon for the fourth consecutive year.

This year he was also selected for the Hopman Cup in Australia and New Zealand Pro Circuit in Hamilton and Wellington, also for the first time.

Mukherjee has worked in Dubai ATP, Vietnam ATP in 2008. He also officiated in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Sri Lanka and all over India.
