M'lore: Accident on National Highway 17, Two Grievously Injured

Mangalore, Jul 22: In an accident involving an express bus, tempo and motor bike at Mukka on the national highway 17, two bike riders sustained serious injuries, Several others escaped with minor injuries.

Shivanand(39) from Kinnigoli who was riding the motor bike and pillion rider Raghuram from Mulki have been admitted into a private hospital in Mangalore after they were badly injured in the above accident. Van driver Muttappa(24) from Haleangadi, bus conductor Chandrashekhar(22) from Belthangady, Sathish(28) from Mukka, Dinesh Shettigar(28) from Udupi, Sadaram from Mangalore Urwa and Sundari(66) from Puttur were also injured but their injuries are of minor nature.

The tempo loaded with cement bricks was speeding towards Mangalore from Udupi when it collided with the express bus coming from the opposite direction, inspite of the fact that the bus driver swerved to the left to avoid the accident. The slippery highway too contributed to the seriousness of the accident. As a result, the tempo was badly mangled.

The bike rider who was following the bus at great speed, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the rear side of the bus. Both the motor bike borne youth have sustained injuries to their heads. The highway was blocked for over two hours due to this incident. Both the four wheeler drivers escaped with minor injuries.

Suratkal police have registered a case.
