Mangalore: Yakshagana Extravaganza from July 28 at Town Hall

Mangalore, Jul 20: Yakshagana week will be staged in Town Hall from Monday July 28 to Sunday August 3, with a view to promote the coastal district’s art and to popularize it among the general public, said Sudhakar Rao Pejavar, chief secretary of Sri Krishna Yaksha Sabha, during a press meet here on Saturday July 19.

Yakshagana week will be inaugurated at 5.30 pm on July 28. Yakshagana plays will be staged by the ace artistes of Thenkutittu form throughout the week, he said.

Matsyavatar mythological episode will be held on July 28, Veeramani Kalaga on July 29, Tulasi- Jalandhara on July 30, Lavanasura – Lavakusha on July 31, Rani Shashiprabha Parinaya on Aug 1 and Sri Krishna Parijatha – Narakasura Moksha on Aug 2. 

Sri Krishna Leele Taalamaddale will be held on August 3 by women artistes of Ashoknagar Kukyady Devanga community while child artistes of Kodical Sarayoo Yaksha troupe will stage yakshagana play from 2.30 pm to 5 pm on the same day.  Mythological episode of Ravanotsav – Bhu Kailasa yakshagana will be staged at 5.30 pm, Sudhakar Rao informed.

Yakshagana artistes Bheema Bhat, Padyana Ganapaty Bhat, Siddakatte Chennappa Shetty, D Manohar Kumar, Tonse Jayant Kumar and Padyana Shankaranarayan Bhat will be felicitated on the occasion.

K S Kalluraya, president of Sri Krishna Yakshagana Sabha and Ramanat Hegde, executive president, Pradip Kumar Kalkura, vice-president, Sanat Kumar Jain were present at the press conference.
