Bangalore: Defectors Send Shivers Down the Congress, JD (S) Spine

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jul 7: At a time when the old guard of the Congress party are busy playing politics in internal squables, securing their posts in the party, backstabbing up and coming leaders and nursing their personal egos rather than of the party, the party is receiving urgent wake up calls. The party, already bogged down by poor performance in the assembly elections followed by mud slinging, blame-games and inability to find a suitable person to lead the party in the state, is under attack. There appears to be a exodus of legislators from the Congress and the JD (S) to the BJP in the state.

The BJP, which was doing a tight rope walk to save itself from sliding to nowhere, has been strengthening its numbers. In addition to  Congress legislator from Karwar Anand Asnotikar, the BJP has succeeded in getting two legislators from the JD (S), Arabavi legislator Balachandra Jarkiholi and Devadurga MLA Shivana Gowda Nayak into its fold. Now. Narasimhaswami, legislator representing Doddaballapur constituency has jumped into the BJP bandwagon, deserting the Congress. It may be recalled, that Narasimhaswami is the son of veteran Congress leader R L Jalappa and had defeated ex-minister Channigappa in the election. This move gives out a clear signal that he had obtained his father's concurrence before defecting to the BJP and this may also be a step taken by R L Jalappa towards embracing the saffron party himself and making a bid to become that party's MP from Doddaballapur.

Narasimhaswami

The BJP has struck the battered Congress, which is yet to recover from the unexpected drubbing it received at the hands of the state electorate, below the belt. This move has delivered direct blows to the esteem of the state Congress leaders, who seem to have been frustrated and turned desperate rather than being in a retaliatory mood. With the resignation of the above legislators, which have been accpeted by the assembly speaker, the total strength of the assembly has slumped to 220, with no immediate worries for the BJP with 110 legislator ensconsed safety in its seat. It has firmly saddled itself in the state now, does not depend on the support of the independent legislators who had turned kingmakers during the ministry formation.

The BJP is continuing with its luring games and there are rumours that about six to eight legislators from the Congress and the JD (S) are ready to hop in to the BJP. Leader V Somanna and Yamakanmaradi MLA Satish Jarkiholi from the Congress, Umesh Katti, Siddaraju and Suresh Babu from the JD (S) are the prominent MLAs who are said to be ready to fall for the BJP's bait.

The Congress and the JD (S) knew very well from the day the BJP rose to power in the state that efforts were being made by the mining lords who are BJP ministers, to woo some of their legislators into the BJP fold. They did not expect that the lords would move so fast. The Congress was hoping to floor the BJP government during the budget session, by making use of a feeling of frustration that has set in among the independent legislators who have been made ministers, by allotting insignificant portfolios. On the other hand, the BJP now does not need the support of independent legislators and the dream of the Congress and the JD (S) to forge an alliance and bring down the BJP government, have gown awry.

The BJP is now to set to expand its ministry to induct the newly-joined members into it. While J Narasimha Swami and Balachandra Jarkiholi are expected to be given ministerial berths, Anand Asnotikar and Shivanagowda Nayak may be accommodated as chairmen of corporations or boards. Those who have crossed over to the BJP will soon contest from their respective constituencies again, on a BJP ticket. Energy minister K S Eshwarappa has predicted that a few more legislators will soon shift their allegiance to his party.

The JD (S) on its part, has said that it will not be making any efforts to discourage would be defectors. It plans to launch an awareness campaign against the BJP by telling the people that the BJP is imposing a by-election on them within a couple of months of the last election, throwing ethics to the winds and causing heavy expenditure to the exchequer. Instead of being hunters, the Congress and the JD (S) now seem to have been resigned to their roles as the hunted ones.

As we know how the politicians use democracy for their gains and this is not something new. Now these three politicians have been elected on the basis of the party they represented and they betrayed the voters who voted them. Therefore, when they stand again for elections no one should vote them as they can not be trusted because they always follow the direction of the wind. With regard to the stability of the BJP Government, they need to worry if they do good to all the people of state. But, if they have the majority of their own, then there are chances they go beck to their hidden agendas, which is religious, caste etc. and no one can oppose them. Now, atleast because of these six independants supporting BJP, we can expect some opposition otherwise it can be 'Merry go round' for BJP.

Now the question is Who will bear the expenses of re-election? Is BJP meeting this on its own OR again wasting public money as our politicians have done this for years.

Though this is not good development for democracy, this is good for Karnataka. All of us know how Congress and JDs were trying to destabilize the governement by wooing the independents. Also, independents are not reliable on long run.

By the way, Congress is crying foul now, where as, we all know what PVN governement did to secure the majority.

These MLAs have resigned and taking fresh mandate, it costs, but its less un ethical compared to what congress was doing all these days. All that we need is stable government.

We need to kick Devegowda and sons from politics then everything will be fine. Gowda family is fit to be out of India and are nightmare to our state. People should appreciate BJP idea of stability for 5 years. Even though independents are good but we cannot trust anything.

First of all these kind of developments (poaching) not good for democracy. But given circustances, it looks okay. The kind of people in oppostion are ready to stoop any level to gain power against the will of people.

We have already seen the dirty politics played by JDS and Congress. Atleast by making those MLAs resign, BJP gave the people again chance to decide whether what happened is correct or not. So it is again in hand of people to decide in by-election. So it is better than any other kind of worst politics played by JDS/Congress

Yes BJP is doing right thing asking the other party MLAs those wish to join BJP,to vacate thier MLA seat and face fresh election from BJP party, not like Siddaramaiah who along with 8 JDS MLAs left JDS and sat in vidana souda as congress's assosiate members.By doing this, people of karnataka can have stable govt with BJP having enough of nos to run the govt.

I think very soon we might see one of the Reddy's or their so called "Guru" Sriramulu becoming the chief minister of the state, as they have started buying MLAs and also have a big say in decision making. Even the top BJP leaders will not have a say in the near future. They will be like puppets who will run the show on behalf of Reddy's and Sriramulu.

Trend is not good, they are going against the people verdict. They are not joining because of giving stable govt for 5 years only because of money they are receiving from BJP. If they agree with BJP policy why they didn’t join before election? Well it shows that BJP also following same path which was done long before Janatha Parivar, now result is in front of us. These kinds of politics will not run for long. Lets hope for the best for our state.

Shri Yedyurappa recently performed some Pooja to ward of Kuja Dosha. It appears that he is still afflicted by Kuja Dosha. Do you know why? Kuja is also known as Angaraka or Mars. We all know colour of Mars is Red thats why it is called Red Planet. Now Bellary ore colour is also Red and the mine lords called Red(dy)s are handling the BJP Government with this Red Ore money. That means the Kuja who is red is still affecting the functioning of Sri Yedyurappa through Red Money - therefore Red Planet is still in charge now- according to me. When Ore lorries destroys our roads and people we also become Red faced - that is a different matter. That is not a Dosha but it is our Roasha (anger)!

. BJP is doing this for stability.

    1. Karnataka need stable govt for 5 years – Even though all independents seems to be reliable peoples but they can dictate terms and blackmail govt at any point. Since independent MLA are staunch followers of Congress & JDS leaders, they may change their mind and go with congress and JDS later there by de-stabilizing govt.

    2. As we all know Devegowda and sons are very dangerous guys. Even Congress and JDS are planning secretly to destabilize govt.

    3. Conducting election for 6 constituencies is always cheaper than state re-election.

    4. People's should appreciate BJPs plan to give stable govt.

BJP making right move to secure it's position for five years, it was much needed because there has been quiet meetings between JD(S) & Congress leaders to topple the government by brainwashing the independents of better portfolios.

Can't understand why JD(S) planning to launch an awareness campaign about the by- election to whom ? Who forced the Karnataka state into President' s rule? Who made Karnataka to face the mid term polls? Any answers from JD (S)? A BJP Govt. ecspecially B.S. Yediurappa making most of his efforts to develop the state as a model state. At least support them now, Don't play with the people , most of the people are educated now... may be you can brainwash some farmers..even they are intelligent.. Mr. Mallikarjuna Kharge says Murder of Democracy ! What your colleagues did in Goa & in Jharkand states?

So BJP follows congress which taught lessons in the past..! If they (Cong & JD-S)are really worried about farmers difficulties they should have met Central Govt. leaders along with the Chief Minister. Now only one choice left for both...better retire from politics or decide what to do next? Best option to join BJP at one move..so no blame games..let us develop the state, country.
