Mangalore, Jul 6:Health department principal secretary Madangopal visited the city on Saturday, July 5.

Madangopal had a detailed discussion with the District Health Officer (DHO) Dr H Jagannath, district surgeon Dr H Prabhudev and a few prominent doctors from private hospitals in the city.

Speaking to media persons later, he informed that instructions have been given to all the doctors of the district to prescribe medicines for diseases like Chikungunya, dengue and rat fever, only after conducting proper tests. If the doctors prescribe medicines without diagnosing the disease properly, DHOs will be held responsible, he cautioned.

Meanwhile he revealed that the incidence of Chikungunya has come down in Dakshina Kannada. However, preventive measures like fogging, organising of awareness programmes and tablets distribution will be continued as before, he added.

A committee consisting of six experts has been appointed in the district to find out the causes for the deaths that occurred in the Chikungunya affected places in the district, Madangopal informed.
