Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jun 27: The proposed petrochemicals and Petro Industries Region (PCPIR) project that was to consume a huge chunk of land available in the twin districts and which has been facing bitter opposition from various organizations backed by the people in general, is all set to be scarapped, if what home minister V S Acharya said was any indication.

The government is considering the issue of witihdrawal of PCPIR in view of widespread opposition to the project and also taking into account the quantum of land required for the project. "I have discussed the issue to DK district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar and minister for large industries Murugesh Nirani. A final decision will be taken by the cabinet soon and recommendations will be made to the union government accordingly," he said, during the inauguration  of the newly-built Udupi zilla panchyat building.

This should be done as soon as possible. The only people benefitting from this project are real estate agents and some MLAs. The common people's fate will be homeless wanderers. Please scrap PCPIR and save D.K.
