Mangalore: Joy for Riders - City Roads to Get Facelift

Mangalore, Jun 19: The City Corporation Council has decided to concrete the road between A B Shetty Circle and Hampankatta Circle, duly widening it into a four-lane road. The stretch between Karavali Circle and Kankanady Circle too will be changed into a four lane concrete road. 500 metres stretch of the road from Kuntikan junction towards Kavoor will be widened into a four lane road. Roads between Padavinangadi Mahalingeshwar temple and Kavoor, Nanthoor circle to Bunts' Hostel circle and PVS Circle and Navbharat Circle too will get a facelift with asphalting and widening work.

Corporation executive engineer G V Rajashekhar has said, that these projects are being taken up out of funds provided by the State Finance Commission. These projects have received administrative and technical approvals of the government, he informed.

The council will be acquiring 31.75 cents of land for widening the road between Mary Hill and Kavoor temple. Land will also be acquired for widening the road between Balmatta Circle and Bendoorwell Junction under Transfer of Development Rights under which the owners who surrender the land will get an additional built up area in lieu of the land surrendered by them, by relaxing the rules.

The airport road from Karntaka Polytechnic Junction to Bajpe will be renamed as Sir M Visveswaraiah Road as per a decision taken in the council meeting.
