Dr Shankar Khanderi (70), retired Sessions judge, writer, legal columnist, and litterateur, passed away on the night of Thursday June 12 at KMC Hospital, Manipal.
 
He is survived by wife, son, and daughter.  Hailing from Khanderi in Perla village of Kasargod district, the former judge was residing at Maril near here, after the retirement. 
 
Dr Khanderi obtained a doctorate for his thesis on law culled from many decades of professional expertise. He has served as chairman of the ninth Kannada Sammelan held here, besides being a member of the Tulu Sahitya Academy.
 
While serving as taluk president of the Tulu Koota, he has authored 16 novels with societal themes as well as two detective fictions. Dr Khanderi has published eight law books in Kannada for the benefit of the common man besides doing research on Tulu, Kannada, and English literature.
 
An expert speaker, legal advisor, and active literary and social worker, he had in-depth knowledge of the Indian Constitution and legal framework.

MP Sadanand Gowda, MLA Mallika Prasad, local municipal councilor Rajesh Bannur, Karnataka Sangha president B Purandar Bhat, taluk Sahitya parishat president G L Acharya, convener of Sanskratik Kala Kendra Chidanand Kamat, Puttur-Kasargod taluk journalists’ association president Shashidar Rai Kuthyala have condoled his death.
