Stamp Paper Scam - Telgi to be Transferred to B'lore Central Jail

The Pune sessions court has permitted the Yerawada jail authorities to transfer the fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Kareem Telgi to the Bangalore Central Jail, after Telgi’s lawyers submitted an appeal to the sessions court.

Eight cases are pending against Telgi in Karnataka and trials of some of the cases are underway. The trials were being held through video conferencing. Sources told the this website’s newspaper that the video conferencing equipments ere not functioning properly.

Telgi’s advocates had asked the special court for a transfer to the Bangalore Central jail in Parappana Agrahara and the special court had dismissed the plea. They had approached the High Court of Karnataka regarding he matter. The case is still pending in the High Court.

The trials of all cases filed against Telgi in Maharashtra have been completed and Telgi’s health is not in good condition. Telgi’s lawyers had also sought his transfer to Bangalore at the Pune sessions court. The Pune court has permitted the transfer.

The Director General of Police (Prison) S T Ramesh said: “We have not got any orders till now. If they transfer him to Bangalore we will do whatever is necessary.”

Shankarappa, a senior advocate and constitutional expert, said: “Now that Telgi will be personally present, the trials of his cases will go on faster and justice would be done.”
