Mangalore, Apr 22: CPI (M)'s election campaign office was inaugurated here at State Bank on Monday, April 21 evening by eminent economic analyst D P Kumar. He made a formal inauguration of the office by handing over CPI (M) flag to Mangalore South constituency candidate Yashwant Maroli.

Speaking on the occasion D P Kumar informed that left parties are enjoying power in 3 states of India. The party should extend its base to other states as well, he exhorted.

'Imbalances within the economy has increased in the past six decades. While the rich are becoming richer, the poor are getting poorer. Meanwhile, the nation is facing severe problems owing to price rise. If it is not controlled, even the middle class will become victims of this phenomenon. CPI (M) is the only party in India which is fighting against price rise, he pointed out praising his own party.

Speaking to media persons here after the stage programme CPI (M) district general secretary B Madhava stated that the shape of Mangalore South constituency has changed due to delimitation. Therefore, CPI (M)'s chances of winning has increased considerably in this constituency. 'We are contesting to win and not to split the votes or aid another party,' he said when asked whether the party's tactics is helping Congress.

Further he informed, 'More than 30,000 beedi workers are there in this constituency. CITU has been working for several decades for their rights. Meanwhile, labour unions of various companies, public sector units will support CPI (M) in this election. Therefore, CPI (M) is confident of winning this election,' he added.

"CPI (M) will never demand votes on basis of caste, instead the party will demand votes on class issues. Class issue is more relevant to society than religion. Working class in India has been struggling a lot due to wrong decisions taken by the government. CPI (M) will fight for these issues in this election,' he promised on behalf of his party.

Also, according to Madhava CPI (M) would be contesting against both Congress and BJP in Mangalore South constituency keeping both away at an equal distance. Both these parties have implemented liberalization in the country. This has resulted in the country facing a high rate of inflation now, with the poor and middle class becoming victims of this inflation. It is mainly due to these policies the party has decided to maintain an equal distance from both these parties, clarified Madhava to reporters here. Krishnappa Poojary and Sunilkumar Bajal were also present on the occasion.
