M'lore: Fr Muller Hospital hosts Cervical Cancer Screening Camp

As part of the International Women’s Day, the department of community medicine jointly with the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) conducted a one-day 'Cancer Screening Camp' for the community of Mullerkad via Urban Health Centre (UHC) in Kavoor.

Also seen are (L-R) Dr Aruna Kamath, associate. professor, department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr S B Rotti, vice-dean and head, department. of Community Medicine, Fr Denis D’Sa, administrator, Dr B Sanjeev Rai, dean, Dr Prasanna, department. of Community Medicine, Father Muller Medical College and Dr Nagesh Attavar, medical officer, urban health centre   


Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director, FMCI presided over the function. Fr Denis D’Sa, administrator, Dr B Sanjeev Rai, dean, FMMC offered their felicitations. The inauguration was marked by the traditional lighting of lamp. During the inaugural function, two wheelchairs were donated by the city based Kerala Samajan to two disabled women and another wheelchair was donated to the UHC, Kavoor for its welfare.  
 
The camp was conducted mainly to screen cases of cervical cancer of the uterus among women. Pap smears were performed as part of the screening. 55 women above the age of 35 years were screened for cervical cancers. Dr Aruna Kamath, associate professor, department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, FMCH played an active role in the screening campaign. There was also a presentation made for the general public, in order to increase their awareness about cervical cancers.  
 
Head of the department of Community Medicine Dr S  B  Rotti, welcomed the gathering and Dr Nagesh Attavar, medical officer, UHC proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Prasanna, department of Community Medicine, FMMC was also present on the occasion.
