  • Entire examination process likely to be computerized
  • 'Issue hall tickets for first semester exams'

Mangalore, Mar 14: Mangalore University is all set to issue computerised marks cards to its undergraduate students, beginning with those who appeared for the first semester examinations of the credit-based scheme.

According to sources in the university, the results of the first semester examinations of various courses of the academic year 2007-08, which were held in October-November, 2007, have been announced. But marks cards have not been distributed.

“The computerised marks cards will be issued shortly,” the sources told The Hindu.

“The university has sent copies of ledger sheets containing the marks to principals of affiliated colleges for verification of internal assessment marks. Not many complaints have been received from colleges,” a university official said.

Software

The computerised marks cards would be generated with a software developed by Wipro Technologies.

“This software will soon be improved to generate hall tickets and degree certificates. When that happens, the entire examination process will be computerised,” he said.

The Mangalore University has decided to direct the affiliated colleges to start issuing hall tickets to students from 2008-09.

The university sources said that some colleges had failed to send students’ admission statements in time leaving little time for the university to prepare and issue hall tickets.

“By making colleges themselves responsible to issue hall tickets, it is hoped that last minute confusions will be avoided. As a result of such confusions, we could send the hall tickets to some colleges this year,” the sources said.

However, this decision was restricted to first semester examination only.

The university will issue the hall tickets for the rest of the examinations which will be held during April-May.
