Mangalore: Dist Administration Begins Drive to Control Malaria

Mangalore, Mar 11: Special malaria control programme will be undertaken by civic authorities under its jurisdiction, with effect from Tuesday March 11.  A total of 479 teams have been formed to undertake the survey, said M Maheshwar Rao, Deputy Commissioner, at a press conference on Monday March 11.

All the essential items for undertaking the survey such as placards, medicines, distinct fish stocks which neutralizes the effects of malaria-borne mosquitoes in the ponds and stagnant water around the city and other necessities have been kept ready.  Eight separate teams have been formed under the leadership of Dr Deepak Bolar, in order to take malaria control measures in the migrant labourers’ colony and work sites.  Special yellow cards are being distributed to identify the migrant labourers.  Builders of housing sites have been cautioned not to store water in their sites.  Those who violate this rule will be penalized and their permit will be cancelled, cautioned deputy commissioner. 

Twelve counters will be set up at Town Hall for the efficient execution of malaria survey, on Tuesday.  Laboratory facilities have been made in association with various medical colleges, DC added.

A M Kunjappa, chief executive officer of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, Dr Jagannath, district health officer, Ajit Kumar Hegde, municipal joint commissioner, Dr Manjayya Shetty, municipal health officer were present at the press conference.
