Manglaore: Former DDPI Yusuf Qazi Dead

Mangalore, Mar 4:
  An eminent personality of Bhatkal, former Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) and the vice-president of Majlise-Islah-O-Tanzeem Bhatkal, Yusuf Qazi passed away on Sunday at 4 pm in a city hospital here. His last rites were performed as per traditions on Monday March 3. 
 
Yusuf Qazi was ailing for some time and had been brought to the city for treatment, after he started complaining of a niggling pain in his leg. However, later it was revealed that one of his kidneys had failed, due to which his condition deteriorated and became critical, leading to his death.

He is survived by wife, three sons and six daughters. 

Being a well-liked person his sudden demise cast the township of Batkal in a pall of gloom. A huge crowd had gathered at his residence at Nawayath Colony. There was so much crowd at his funeral that special security arrangements had to be made to control the traffic.

A brief note on Yusuf Qazi:
 
Yusuf Qazi originally belonged to Samshi of Honnaver taluk. He began his career as a physical education teacher in Islamia Anglo Urdu High School. Later he took charge as the headmaster of the institution after the death of Usman. Some years later, he was appointed as the education officer of Karwar. In the years 1988-89 he became DDPI of Mysore. He had various postings in Simoga and Kolar before finally retiring in 1992.  

Yusuf Qazi was famous for his discipline. He also served many social organizations. He was on the board as the administrative member of Samshi school Bhatkal and Manki school. He was also the founder member and president of Deccan Welfare Association, after resigning from which took the post of vice-president of Majlise-Islah-O-Tanzeem and served the same till his last breath.
