Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme plays an important role in medical profession, opined Dr K R Shetty, neurologist and former dean of the city's Kasturba Medical College (KMC).
 
Dr Shetty was delivering the inaugural address at the Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on cosmetic surgery, organized by the department of dermatology, A J Institute of Medical Sciences, here on Sunday March 2.
 
The concept of cosmetic surgery is not new to human kind. The history of the concept dates back to several thousand years of human civilization. However, bringing it under an academic discipline is a recent phenomenon, he informed.
 
Professionals involved in cosmetic surgery and related fields must first consider the ethical question involved in cosmetic surgery. Moreover they must ensure that every one, cutting across different sections of the society must be able to avail of its benefits.
 
A J Shetty, president of the city's Laxmi Memorial Education Trust delivered the presidential address. Dr J P Alva, dean of A J Institute of Medical Sciences and the guest of honour also spoke on the occasion.
 
Dr Narendra J Shetty, organizing secretary welcomed the gathering.
