Mangalore, 26: Mangalore Institute of Fashion Technology (MIFT) has come up with a novel plan to encourage elected representatives to do better for the society.  The institution has instituted the 'Best Corporator' award to deserving corporators of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC).

Corporators who are capable of discharging their duty in transparency and taking initiatives through pro-people developmental works will be chosen for the awards, said founder president of MIFT M G Hegde.

Newly-elected 60 corporators have started functioning and will be in power for the coming 5 years. Good governance is very badly needed for the city which is developing on fast track. It is also the citizens' expectations from their elected candidates to provide basic needs especially sanitation. Corporators are having more responsibilities to develop city in systematized and organized approach.

It is ridiculous to note that in the present day political system most of the politicians are not having good reputation in the eyes of public. It is very much needed to appreciate those representatives who work well for the public cause.  Accordingly MIFT has initiated an award a deserved corporator who will be presented with a gold medal and a certificate.  There will also be consolation awards for 4 corporators who will be presented certificate and shield.

Five member committee representing different streams will scrutinize corporators based on their performances. Dr Aroor Prasad Rao will be the chairman of the committee while Chidambara Baikampady, Bala Subrahmanya, K P A Shukoor, Dr Shivasharan Shetty are the members of the committee and principal of the MIFT Kasturi Shetty will be the secretary of the committee.

Performance of the corporators in the coming four years, active participation of theirs in corporation meetings, their public relations and developmental works undertaken in their constituency are the criteria for the selection.

Corporators who are involved in corruption, having criminal records and those who shift parties are not eligible for the selection.
