Note ban impacts PepsiCo's India biz: Nooyi

Its net income fell 18% to $1.40 b in Q4 ended December 2016

New York, Feb 18 (PTI): The demonetisation drive in India had a “significant impact” on PepsiCo’s business in the country in the last quarter of 2016 and there are still “lingering effects” of it, according to the food-and-beverage giant’s India-born CEO Indra Nooyi.

“On demonetisation, across the board for pretty much all of industry, and CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) in particular because it hit the individual retailer significantly, demonetisation had a significant impact on our India business in Q4,” Nooyi said during an earnings call for Pepsi’s fourth quarter that ended on December 2016.

Responding to a question during the call on February 15 on whether demonetisation had any impact on Pepsi’s beverage or snack business, Nooyi said there are still some “lingering effects” from the Indian government’s decision to withdraw high-value banknotes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 from circulation, noting that she is “not sure we are totally out of the woods”.

Nooyi, 61, said demonetisation was a “massive change” since about 80% of the currency in circulation in India was no longer legal tender. She added that implementation of the policy too had its “share of challenges” but hoped that things will return to normal by the second quarter that will end in June this year.

“So our hope was that by the time Q2 rolls by we would be through the bulk of the demonetisation challenges and the new currency and the digital currency will be back in circulation and we will be back to retail activity coming back to normal,” Nooyi said.

PepsiCo reported net revenues of $19.51 billion in the last quarter of 2016, up 5% from $18.58 billion in the same quarter in 2015.

Its net income, however, fell 18% to $1.40 billion in the quarter ended December 2016, when compared with $1.71 billion in the year-ago period.

Why petrol prices are high today?-Mr.Rajesh

Sir, Iran is under sanction by the United Nation. Along with China and India exempted from crude import. Due to the impact of sanctions India is unable to transfer payment in Dollar to the Iranians. So under UPA India went for Barter system.

UPA II has handled the petroleum crisis very well when the crude is touched its peak of $150/barrel. But it is has managed the retail pricing below what BJP is selling at present when barrel is costing less that $30 at one stage.

1.Why the BJP is failed to pass the lower prices to the consumer of India?
2.If BJP ruling state manage to sell petrol/Diesel retail prices lower than the rest of India, why can't the same benefit to the rest of India?
3.Why there are is no transparency in taxation on every liter of petrol sold in retail?
    4. Why is consumer is paying the price of $150/barrel when the brent is costing India $50/barrel?
5.Lastly, Where is all that profit has gone due to low crude price?

Every argument need facts and deep knowledge.Har,Har Modi can only feed the blind followers not common man of India. Stop blaming 70 years past like PM Modi. Gentlemen use your common sense why 3 years is not sufficient for BJP to reduce even single penny or stop Indian currency depreciation?

    Ravi,

Which side of the fence are you ? If you are a Modi supporter, you must start walking instead riding your two/four wheel vehicle/bus-train-aeroplane travel because all that you are enjoying today is because of the mismanagement of Congress. Start your life from where/how people were living in 1947 to prove you are a true Modi lover.

That including forfeiting internet connectivity/usage, phones, western clothing (pant/shirt), coffee/tea/dairy milk and all. Do it manually as it was in 1947 !

don't compare the junk food with your car and lorry, both are different things. Walking is good for health but junk food like burgers, KFC, McDonald's, Pizza, coke, pepsi are injurious to health.
