Barcelona not to sell Mascherano till penalty clause payment

Barcelone, May 25 (EFE): Spanish football champions Fc Barcelona have stressed they are not ready to negotiate the transfer of Argentine defender Javier Mascherano unless his 100 million euro ($111 million) release clause is paid.

A Barcelona spokesman said on Wednesday this announcement was made after clubs such as Juventus and Arsenal showed interest in signing the player, reports Efe.

Recently, the Catalan media reported about Mascherano's doubts regarding his future amid indicators of signing a new defender for the club, while the Argentine seeks to go back to his original position as a midfielder.

Mascherano, 32, has a valid contract at Barcelona until June 2018 with a release clause of $111 million.
