IITs have been asked to teach Sanskrit: Smriti Irani

New Delhi, Apr 25 (PTI): IITs have been asked to teach Sanskrit language for facilitating study of science and technology as reflected in its literature, Lok Sabha was told today.

A panel, chaired by former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami, in its report had suggested that Indian Institutes of Technology or IITs may facilitate study of science and technology as reflected in Sanskrit literature along with inter-disciplinary study of Sanskrit and modern subjects, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said in a written reply.

"Accordingly, IITs have been requested to teach Sanskrit language especially with reference to study of works which contain scientific knowledge," Irani said.

It is high time that we ditch the language English which is forced on Indians by British who made India their colony and looted. We have to make Sanskrit, the mother of all languages compulsory to everyone not only in India but in the world because it is the mother of all languages. Anyway, by 2020 RSS and VHP are going to rule whole world and the whole world will become Hindu and then we need Sanskrit since this is the only language the God understands. All words of Science and Technology would be replaced by Sanskrit. I am sure few bhakths will contribute to make this mission of Yale Graduate McDonalds' waitress' successful one.@Dev Kumar, Mangalore/Hooghly, I know you have a degree in Sanskrit from Yale University as well and you might be the best person to teach Sanskrit to Sonia and Pappu and other bhakths can make a team and teach Sanskrit to people from all around the world including ISIS to help VHP/RSS to fulfill their dream of making this whole world under their rule by 2020. Hello!! time is running out!!

For all who oppose this, Sanskrit is going to be a optional subject in IIT like German Language, Kuchupudi dance art and many more optional course. One one is forcing you to study Sanskrit. Anybody who is interested can study. If you are opposing Sanskrit then feel free to oppose other optional course like German Language, Kuchupudi dance art etc.

That is the amount of literature sanskit has.. I know its magnanimity is not a mater of pride bur matter of disgust for some souls, but truth cannot be hidden for ever.. pl read why sanskit teachers are in shortage in Germany.. why do they study it in the first place?

And going backward means earth is spherical and not flat, tracking star movement with bare eyes, marvelous architecture standing tall for 1000 years, do exercise, yoga, music, dance, herbal way of life, pure whether, water, no high speed vehicles but then no injuries, no accident news on a daily basis , prayers, helping each other, peaceful happy life of average 90 years, etc

Make compulsory from lower KG onwards as such next generation people start to greet in sanskrit itself. By which environment in the society will improve and samaskar extend manifold. Moreover it will helpful during war period as our enemies won't able to understand much. Now world comes to know India is ancient country..where in god provided each n every thing. A vast majority of the Indian students, fully supported by their parents, enter technology-based higher education with one purpose: to go abroad for a job. It is not that nobody wants to work in India. But a vast majority of Indian students and their parents are hardwired to think that a well-paying job can only be somewhere abroad, preferably in Western countries.

It has been said that, except for a negligible percentage of graduates, all those who receive their education in IITs go abroad. IITs are, of course, funded by the Indian taxpayers.

So, Sanskrit, despite its great reputation as a literary language in India centuries ago, will be of no use to the students who will work abroad. It will be a distraction. A waste of money and effort if the students are not interested.

The whole idea could not have come at a worse time. The Government has already set in motion the entry for foreign universities. If the foreign universities in India make the students' life simpler, the students will flock to the foreign universities which will not waste time on teaching Indian culture/yoga/Sanskrit. Who will be interested in joining the IITs?

Many scientific, technological, political and even medical terms used in Hindi and some modern Indian languages are derived or originated from Sanskrit. It’s vocabulary is as vast as English or any European language. There’s a corresponding or equivalent word in Sanskrit for every English term. So studying the ancient language will be an added advantage to the students and also help preserve the language for future generations. When Israelis had revived Hebrew which was on the verge of extinction, why not Sanskrit?

Well, students need to learn language that corroborates the science. for instance Sanksrit calls earth as boologa or sphere.. It gives precise time for rotation as well as 365.25 days for an year. it can give even eclips timings witout use of calculator. Can you tell me any other language can come close to this and that is useful for Nasa? on the other hand finding a full mooon itself is a challenge for some people we knpow it.. I have seen videos of people from other countries cliaming earth is created by their god as flat.. forget about earth rotation that is far from their understading ... so, lets not be jealous and promote other things just because we love it. Sanskrit deserves its place as it is first launange known to man and most advanced among all. why else there is so much demand for teachers of so called medival language ?

Have you read other Religious scripture? I am sure you didn't a word as your comment justifies it.

By the way, why are you guys trying to promote a Dead language? A language becomes dead when there are none to take it as it is not useful to the people in the era they live.

There are many ancient languages which has become history as they are used no more coz they benefit none.

So why promote something which is dead and meaningless to people of present age?

Those who are interested to learn Sanskrit let them learn it, but why making it compulsion? You can't force some individuals choice to all. This is dictatorship. Those who are forcing to learn let them teach or ask their kit and kin to learn, rather than mandating on public or private institutions.
