Udupi, Sep 25: Heavy rains coupled with wind which have been lashing coastal districts for the last couple of days have not forced fishermen to return to Malpe port.  The rough sea, mighty waves and tumultuous weather is posing innumerable challenges to fishermen who are now back to the shore without being able to venture into deep sea fishing.

Fishing vessels, trawlers are anchored in ports at Gangolli, Malpe and Mangalore ports.  Rains which started lashing from September 21 have prevented the fishermen from venturing into the sea.  Those who had already gone fishing have now returned as the district administration has issued strict orders against getting into the sea following rough weather.

At Malpe, the situation is very grim since fishing vessels which were from Shiroor, Hejmadi, Honnavar and other places which were in the middle of the sea have taken shelter at the port.  The pot is full and there is no place for more fishing boats to come. Though it is almost the fag end of rainy season, rain gods do not seem to be retreating.  The weather department too has warned of heavy rains in the next 48 hours too.
