Mangalore, Sep 17:
Since the software companies did not keep up their promise, the Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike, Mudipu, here has decided to provide grounds to the initiation of agitations and protests in phases and series opposing the hypocrisy of the software companies, said Raja Ram Bhat T J, convener of the forum.

He was speaking at press conference here on Monday September 17.

Bhat said that it was believed that the software companies would give priority to locals at the time of recruitment as per their requirements and qualifications of the local candidates. But the recent developments are not as promising as it was expected, he added.

Briefing how the forum will take the fight forward, Bhat said that the beginning of the protests will be peaceful. Software companies will be completely responsible for any further steps like indefinite strikes and hunger strikes by the unemployed candidates.

Regarding the inconvenience caused by the companies, the convener informed that the villages have been treated a mere dustbin, by KIDB and software companies, to dump the waste.

Terming the whole development as exploitation, the convener said unemployed youth will launch hunger strike, if the companies do not respond to the problems of the locals on time, in the near future. If the hunger strike does not give the expected results, then the companies will be completely responsible for any ugly turn the strikes may take, he concluded.

Santosh Kumar Rai, president of the forum, Jayaram Shetty, vice-president, Praveen Alva, secretary and Rakshana Konde, reader of the forum were press at the press conference.

"Industrialise or Perish''Sir M.Visheshvaraiha said,100 yrs ago.But still we have not industrialised fully like developed nations. Politicians and local goons interfere in each and every project to get personal benefits and mileage. These negative thinking people are abundant in societiy. They use the local unemployed youth. Those who are against industries should be brought to book. The responsible newspapers should not give coverage to such groups.

Had people not protested Cogentrix, today there would not have been severe power shortage in mangalore.Nagarjuna is dealyed because of protests. Had People objected to software companies in Bangalore,Banglore would not have grown so much.Today, every native of Bangalore is a millioner by virtue of place. If people oppose, nieghbouring states take advantage of the situation. The companies are not earning from our land( It is not agriculture). They are earning from our human resources. Our people need not struggle in other states when they can earn here itself.

This is another new type of Panga! Don't teach the youth about hunger strike and so on. Like one of the reader pointed out- companies need to hire the best individual to get their investment back. If the companies hire people due to strike, they will carry on the same with the job due to the support of locals.

I suspect it will turn our South Canara to the levels of Kerala, where nobody wants to start a serious business and employ local workforce. Same people work in neighbouring state for low wages without any word of protest. How new companies can invest money in Mangalore when there are people to protest on anything and everything? A jobless person is the one who do not want to work.

I feel these vedike's are showing the way for easy career to the jobless. Thus preventing our region an opportunity to grow and denying the opportunities of direct and indirect employment (as another reader Pointed). For the good of our region please keep politics and Industrial growth far away from each other. Politicians do not invest. They reap by creating problems.

This is some what I feel a good step to put pressure on companies. The Govt.should ensure while alloting land to such companies in the name of development, that not only the area/city gets developed, but also the lifestyle of local residents, unemployed youths should also gets developed, and the companies not only earn money from our land, but also contributes to the development of entire city and the district.

As of now what happens is the companies are making money from our land, and they are developing in business. what about so called development of infrastructure, education of poor people, quality life of local people, they are just servants to top officials of the co's. Let's stop this sweet corruption in the name of development.

I think the locals here want the place to remain as it is. And as one of th readers rightly pointed out in his comments on earlier attempts by locals against such moves, saying they still want their children to go out and slog in the hotels or markets at Mumbai or some other big cities.

The entry of a software or any other industry will create not 1:3 direct to indirect employment opportunities. If we lose this opportunity, our region will lag behind in all aspects. I request them to stop politicising the issue in the name of culture.

Every parent must teach their children about culture and as "Charity bigins at home" they must be tought about good deeds at home. Instead, if we stop job oriented indutries entering the city or suburbs it is nothing but a sheer foolishness.

Are these people crazy? Companies should recruit the best talent, and merit should be the only criteria. Moreover, there is no reason why they should'nt recruit locals if they are talented Software companies are the least invasive and least polluting of all industries.

It is far better to have software companies that huge petrochemical industries that pollute and gooble up vast chunks of land. How can these men be allowed to hand out open threats with ridiculous statements saying that "companies will be responsible for any ugly turn"? Excuse me, but if the situation takes an ugly turn, these goons are solely responsible

I support your views, it is a good step taken by the group. We should allow Mangalore to grow, but not at the cost of the local youth. We should also be growing with our land and be part of development process.
