Mangalore, Sep 10: “The Election Commission has proposed to hold Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) and other local body elections on Friday September 28.  Since the election is slated to take place on Friday, Muslim candidates and voters are not so happy with the schedule. However all the efforts will be made to convince the election commissioner, to change the polling day”, said Ramanath Rai, newly-elected president of District Congress Committee (DCC).

Speaking at a press conference held on Monday September 10 he blamed that JD (S)-BJP led state government is behind fixing this date and the coalition is neither listening nor understanding the plight of significant voters.

The first priority would be given to face MCC and other local body elections in the district. Later, importance will be given to strengthen the party, he informed.

“Congress party workers’ meeting will be held, during the oath-taking ceremony. The senior party leaders are expected to be present on this occasion. This meeting will be held as soon as possible”, Rai said.

Congress leaders Mamata Gatti, Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Suresh Ballal, former MLA’s Vijaykumar Shetty, Somappa Suvarna and others were present at the press meet.
