Mangalore, August 28: The state government under the Vishesha Ghataka Yojane and Parishishta Pangada Upayojane will be granting allowances to select members belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes for getting training in driving light motor vehicles and auto-rickshaws. These allowances have been granted under the SCP/TSP scheme of the government for the year 2007-08.

The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) informed in a release that deserving candidates belonging to Mangalore and Bantwal taluks, who have passed the SSLC can apply for the scheme. However, it will be mandatory for the candidates to produce caste certificate and income certificate from the tahsildar, added the release
 
The release also enumerated certain criterion for the grant viz: A medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner should be attached to the application. The applicant must be over 18 years of age for light motor vehicle training, and 20 years for auto-rickshaw driving training. Age proof should be attached therewith. However, an individual can apply for any one of the two schemes.
 
Application forms will be distributed in the Mangalore RTO office in between 10.30 am and 4.30 pm till August 31 on all working days. The last date for submitting the filled in applications is September 14. Women can also apply.
 
The maximum number of beneficiaries to be selected under the scheme is 35 (23 for light motor vehicles, 12 for auto-rickshaws). The amount specified for light motor vehicle training is Rs 3,000 and for auto-rickshaw driving is Rs 2,000, informed the release.
 
The government will reimburse only 75 per cent of the expenditure; balance 25 pc should be paid by the candidates, the release clarified.
